Been very busy …

14th July 2003

Well it’s been a month and I’ve finally decided to come around and make a long awaited entry. It’s just been really really busy the past month, and I’ve learned so many new things in the span of just a few days from new operating systems (*nix derivatives) and networking hardware to redundancy, etc

We also went to a cricket match at Lord’s on Saturday, which was a lot of fun, even though the match itself ended very quickly with South Africa making only 107 runs. England easily beat that and we were on our way home very early, at about 3:30 pm! In any case I’m very happy I went, I got to see more of what cricket is all about, i.e. the crowds, the mid-afternoon lunch break where everyone sits in the small park for a picnic for almost an hour, and even the cricket was very laid-back and informal. When we came back home and watched the highlights on TV, it was as if we were watching an altogether different match! There was almost no focus on the crowd, and I felt that all the little things that are happening in the background are sorely lacking. The TV match was only about players and their statistics. I found it quite a bit more informative than when I was in the stadium, but also too formal, dressed up and corporate. In the end I’m glad I got to see what English cricket tradition is about, and now when I watch a match, I can sort of relate to what it must be *really* like, and get some statistics in as well :-) My Dad and Uncle would have loved to be there and I hope I can bring them someday …
